West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery
Troop 64 has a long tradition with the West TN Veterans Cemetery. It started back in 1992 when the cemetery opened. T64's Martin and Joey Hoffert placed flags on 40 gravesites. In 1993, the cemetery expanded to 150 gravesites and T64's Geoff Steiner joined the Hofferts with the flag placement. Beginning in 1994, with the cemetery growing to 1,000 gravesites, all of T64 began participating. The cemetery started expanding by about 1,200 gravesites a year, and the necessary number of flags that needed to be placed outgrew the shipping containers in which they were stored. In 2009, T64 started sorting, culling, and storing all the flags at its church and distributing the flags for each Veterans and Memorial Day. As of 2021, there are over 26,000 flags placed on gravesites. Many of T64's Scouts have completed their Eagle Scout projects at the cemetery.
